Morangos mofados
Editorial graphic design project for the book Strawberries Moldy (Morangos Mofados), by the writer Caio Fernando Abreu, created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the work’s publication. Abreu’s narrative explores themes such as homosexuality, dictatorship, drug use, and sexual freedom, bringing into focus the figure of the melancholic and frustrated modern human being. Illustrations were developed using metaphorical elements to represent the characters’ emotions, ideas, and actions. The color palette is derived from the posters of May 1968 — a landmark of the counterculture movement — and is used to section the book according to the atmosphere of each group of short stories. The tracing paper jacket placed over the strawberry illustration on the cover translates the idea of mold that simultaneously covers and reveals the work, symbolizing the account of a generation that was oppressed and suffocated.
